Sea urchin pendant - silver

This is a beautiful shell, cast in solid Sterling silver and on a 18" rope chain. It's hallmarked inside.

The shell we moulded to make this is an Echinoneus cyclostomus, collected on the beach of Mauritius. It's more commonly known as a little burrowing urchin.

The shell is an echinoderm, a family which includes startish, sea urchins and sand dollars. To start with this particular shell was a hollow potato shape, and we cut it in half across the middle to mould just the top half that you see here. The shell itself is really thin and the detail of the inside of it has come out really well. We've patinated the front to show the detail of the pattern.
